John has been in the public accounting profession for almost 30 years, with the past eleven years as an officer and shareholder of Hodge, Steward & Co., P.A., a Raleigh based CPA firm.

John is a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College located in Berea, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance dated June 1966.

He served in the U.S. Army for two years in 1967-1968, with duty in Vietnam.

He is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants and is presently serving on the AICPA Joint Trial Board for the Ethics Committee. In the past he has been a member of the Council for Entrepreneurial Development, the North Carolina World Trade Association and other local professional and leadership organizations.

He is the holder of Certificate Number 7113, issued by the North Carolina State Board of Certified Public Accountants Examiners, dated February 1973.

During his career he has served the North Carolina Association of CPAs as:

• Committee Chairman
• Executive Committee Member - 3 years
• Board of Directors Member - 6 years

He has also been active in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants serving as:

• Governing Council Member - 4 years
• Committee Chairman - 3 years

In addition, John has served on various committees within the two organizations throughout his career.  His devotion of his extra time and activities to his profession ensures that the high standards established by the CPA profession continue during the times that he is involved.

On a personal note, John and his wife, Meg, have been married for 29 years.  They have three children - Carrie, a graduate of the University of Georgia and a teacher at Martin Middle School in Wake County; Nancy, a graduate of Clemson University and staff member of the Carolina Hurricanes; and John IV, an undergraduate engineering student at Virginia Tech.  He is also a member of the North Raleigh United Methodist Church.
